Frequently asked questions: Additional Window Accessories
How do I operate roof windows that are installed high up?
For roof windows installed high up, you use an operating pole, which lets you operate the handle or the mechanism without climbing a ladder. Telescopic poles extend to cover several heights, while fixed-length ones are easier to store. Choose the pole according to the installation height and the window model.
Which Fakro telescopic pole is needed for a flat roof window?
The catalogue offers the ZSD telescopic pole for flat roof windows, designed precisely for that type of installation. To lengthen a pole you can use the ZSP extension. The straight ZST and the 1.5 m ZSZ poles are alternatives, to be compared with the code of your window. Check the code before buying, because each pole is intended for a specific type.
How do I look after a wooden roof window?
Wooden windows need periodic care, and the XMP maintenance kits for pine or XMU for white are used to treat the wooden parts. Clean the frame with a soft cloth, and check the hinges and the seal. Choose the kit in the right colour, because a different colour would show on the window.
What are the locks and the opening limiter on roof windows for?
The ZBL/D and ZBR locks and the ZBH handle with lock are used to hold the sash in a position. The ZBB limiter, for wooden roof windows, limits the opening, while the ZBL lock completes the locking system. Choose the component according to the window model and the code shown on the product page, because not all of them are compatible with every window.
Which Duet strips should I choose for the window finish?
Duet strips are available in white, code XSW, and in natural colour, code XSP. Choose the colour according to the finish of the installed window, so that the match stays consistent. Before ordering, check the colour of the window and of the finish already present in the room.
What are the XRU and XRP auxiliary beams for roof windows used for?
The XRU and XRP auxiliary beams are elements to be fitted together with the window to complete the installation. In the catalogue you will find them in different codes, such as 18, 40 and 100, which indicate models of different size. Before buying, check in the manual of your system which beam is needed with the chosen window model.
Which components are needed to connect the window to the membrane and the insulation?
Installation also needs sealing elements: the C.3 tape for roof membranes, the XDS vapour-tight connector and the XDP Plus insulation kit. These components connect the window to the roof and to the membrane, and help protect the joint from infiltration and condensation. Use elements from the same product line and follow the manufacturer's installation instructions.
