Abrasive Sheets and Pads for Random Orbital Sanders
291 products · Abrasive Sheets and Pads for Random Orbital Sanders
Abrasive discs, sheets and pads for random orbital sanders, used to sand and prepare wood, metal and filler before painting.
Types available
- Perforated hook-and-loop discs of 125 and 150 mm in various grits (Fervi, DeWalt, Makita, Breaker).
- Pre-punched rectangular sheets, including part-sheets with quick-fit attachment (DeWalt, Makita).
- Powergrid Mesh abrasive paper and mesh for orbital and random orbital sanders (Milwaukee).
How to choose
Check the diameter of the backing pad and the position of the holes, which must match the machine to ensure dust extraction. The grit is chosen according to the job: low for rough sanding, high for finishing. The hook-and-loop fitting allows discs to be changed quickly.
The combined rotating and oscillating motion of the backing pad removes material quickly and leaves a surface free of directional marks. Using the right abrasive, with the holes aligned, helps extract the dust.

Frequently asked questions: Abrasive Sheets and Pads for Random Orbital Sanders
Perforated or non-perforated hook-and-loop disc: which to choose?
Perforated discs connect to the sander's extraction and reduce dust, but the holes must line up with those of the backing pad. Non-perforated discs do not extract and are suitable when dust is not an issue or the pad has no holes. Always check compatibility with your machine before fitting the disc.
Which grit should I choose for sanding wood, metal or filler?
Low grits, such as 40, remove a lot of material and are used for roughing. Higher grits, such as 60 or finer, prepare the surface for painting or finishing. The DeWalt Extreme abrasive mesh is available in grit 40 and 60. For filler, start with a medium grit and finish with a fine one.
125 or 150 mm disc for my sander?
The most common backing pads are 125 and 150 mm, and the disc must have the same diameter. Milwaukee standard sheets are designed for random orbital sanders of 125 and 150 mm. Check the diameter of your backing pad before buying, and make sure the holes are in the correct position for extraction.
Abrasive paper or abrasive mesh for filler and plasterboard?
For filler and plasterboard, abrasive mesh is often used, because dust passes through the mesh and the workpiece stays cleaner. Standard abrasive paper clogs with dust more quickly. For the final passes choose a fine grit and a light movement, without pressing the sander onto the wall.
Quarter-sheet or half-sheet pre-drilled sheets: when to use them?
Pre-drilled quarter or half sheets, such as the DeWalt quick-fit ones, are used when the surface is small, curved or hard to reach with a full sheet. Check that the quick-fit system is compatible with your sander before buying. Choose the format according to the shape of the workpiece.
How do I use a random orbital sander safely?
Wear glasses, ear protection and a mask suited to wood, filler or metal dust. Connect the sander to extraction when the disc is perforated. Do not press the machine down hard: let the abrasive do the work. Replace the disc when it loses grip on the hook-and-loop or when it is worn.
Who uses random orbital sanders and hook-and-loop discs?
Painters and decorators, plasterboard fitters, carpenters, body repairers and restorers use random orbital sanders to prepare wood, metal and filler before painting or finishing. Discs and sheets are chosen according to the job and the machine. For jobs producing a lot of dust, sanding with perforated discs connected to extraction is the cleaner option.
