Self-Tipping Skips
35 products · Lifting Accessories — Slings and Ropes
Skips are containers that are lifted with a crane or forklift and emptied at a precise point, using a lever or an opening in the bottom. They are used to move concrete, loose materials and scrap safely, without going through a wheelbarrow or a sack, and to discharge them where they are needed.
What you will find in this collection
- Concrete skips, conical and cradle-type, with centre or side discharge
- Self-tipping and tilting skips for cranes
- Scrap skips, including mesh ones, and tipping skips for forklifts
- Tremie hoppers for pouring concrete
- Accessories and spare parts, such as hydraulic shock absorbers
The brands included are Comi Storage, Butti, Unimec, Officine Polieri, Tekcnoplast and Sall.
How to choose the right skip
What matters is the capacity and the volume, which must be below the capacity of the lifting equipment, and the type of material: concrete requires a skip with bottom-controlled discharge, while scrap and aggregates call for a tipping or mesh skip. Also check the attachment, for cranes or for forklift forks.

Frequently asked questions: Self-Tipping Skips
When is a crane skip better than loading by hand?
A crane skip moves large quantities of concrete, loose materials and scrap without going through the wheelbarrow or the sack. It is lifted with a crane or forklift and emptied at a precise point, through a lever or an opening on the bottom. It pays off when material must be moved many times or to a point that is hard to reach by hand. Choose the skip based on volume, capacity and type of discharge.
Conical or cradle concrete skip: which to choose?
Concrete skips are conical or cradle-shaped and can have central or side discharge. Central discharge pours the material into the point directly below the skip; side discharge is used when the space underneath is limited or the material must be discharged sideways. The catalogue includes the Officine Polieri conical skip with central and side discharge. Choose based on the pour volume and the area to reach.
Comi Storage scrap skip: how do you choose the volume?
Comi Storage scrap skips range from 300 to 2000 litres, with capacities from 600 to 2000 kg. With heavy scrap the limit is often the capacity, not the volume: a large skip may not be fillable to the top. Consider the specific weight of the material and the capacity of the lifting equipment. The volume helps estimate how many trips are needed to empty the site.
Mesh or closed scrap skip: what is the difference?
The mesh skip lets water and fine material drain out and makes the contents visible. Coarse scrap stays inside without problems, while fine material tends to fall out during transport. The Comi Storage catalogue includes mesh skips, sides and grille and tap kits for discharge. Choose based on the type of scrap and the risk of losses during lifting.
Crane self-discharging skip: how is it emptied?
The self-discharging skip empties by gravity: when it reaches above the discharge point, the lever or the opening on the bottom opens and the material falls. The movement must be controlled so that the load does not drop abruptly. Keep people away from the discharge point and do not stand under the suspended skip.
Hydraulic damper for a scrap skip: what is it for?
The hydraulic damper for Comi Storage scrap skips is a spare part that controls the movement of the skip's moving part during discharge. When replacing it, use the code given by the skip manufacturer and not a generic model. Check regularly that the rod does not leak oil and that the fixing is sound.
How do you avoid overloading a crane skip?
Do not exceed the capacity stamped on the skip, and count the weight of the skip itself separately: it must be added to the weight of the material for the capacity of the lifting equipment. Fill evenly and not above the edge, to avoid material falling during lifting. Before lifting, check that the load is balanced and that the hook is centred on the skip.
