How to choose
Start from the type of screw or nut and its size, then the space available: where you are working at depth you need sockets and extension bars, where access is tight, flexible-head or ratchet spanners. For everyday use a complete set is worthwhile, while for occasional jobs single spanners are enough.

Frequently asked questions: Hand Tightening Tools
Socket or ring spanner: which to choose?
A socket is used with a ratchet or extension bar and allows nuts to be tightened in tight spaces or in depth. A ring spanner wraps around the nut on several sides and reduces the risk of rounding it, so it is preferred for tightening with force. The collection includes double-ended ring spanners and socket sets, with their drive sizes and extensions.
Torque wrench: what is it used for?
A torque wrench tightens screws and nuts to the prescribed torque, so that the bolt is neither loose nor overloaded. It is used on engines, wheels, installations and machines where the tightening value is specified by the manufacturer. The collection includes the torque wrenches art. 666 and art. 666/2. Check the calibration before use.
Open-end or double-ended spanner: what is the difference?
An open-end spanner has two flat jaws, one for each side of the nut, and is practical on exposed nuts. The collection includes double-ended open-end spanners art. 55 and art. 1020, and sets of 8 and 12 open-end spanners. Choose the size according to the nuts you need to tighten and the space available.
Scaffolding spanners: what are they for?
Scaffolding spanners are used to tighten the couplings and clamps of scaffolding, with jaws suited to the nuts used in the assembly systems. There are ring and ratchet versions, which are faster for repetitive work. Scaffolding assembly is governed by Italian Legislative Decree 81/2008 on workplace safety (D.Lgs. 81/2008), which requires trained personnel and suitable equipment.
Box and ring spanner set in thermoformed case: what is the case for?
The Fervi soft thermoformed box and ring spanner set keeps the spanners organised in a case that protects them from dust and knocks. There are satin and polished versions, so you can choose the one best suited to your working environment. Check that the sizes match the nuts you need to tighten.
Flat-blade or cross-head screwdriver: how do you choose the tip?
A flat-blade screwdriver has a flat blade, while a cross-head screwdriver has a cross-shaped tip, available in various sizes. Choose the tip of the exact size of the screw head, because the wrong size damages both the screw and the tip. The collection includes flat-blade and cross-head screwdrivers, singly or in sets.
Hex keys and Torx keys: when are they used?
Hex keys and Torx keys are used for screws with a recessed head, common on machinery, furniture and equipment. The Torx has a six-point star that transmits torque without damaging the screw head. The collection includes single and set hex keys and Torx keys. Always use the exact size of the head.
