Compactors
15 products
Compactors are machines that compact soil and granular materials, to prepare road bases, sub-bases, pipe trenches and paving. In the collection you will find models and accessories from Unimec, Imer Group, DeWalt, Milwaukee, Breaker and Probst.
Types in the collection
- Vibrating plates, including reversible and cordless, for large surfaces.
- Trench rammers (vibrating rammers), for narrow trenches and edges.
- Vibratory rollers, for larger areas, including ride-on models.
- Pneumatic rammers, for manual compaction in tight spaces.
- Accessories: mats, protective plates for paving and water tanks.
How to choose
It depends on the type of ground and the area to be compacted: vibrating plates suit flat surfaces, rammers suit trenches and narrow spaces, rollers suit large areas. Consider the weight of the machine and the compaction force, the power source (petrol, battery or compressed air) and how easy it is to handle on site. Accessories protect finished paving.

Frequently asked questions: Compactors
What are compactors used for and when should they be used?
Compactors compact soil and granular materials so that the base of a road, a sub-base or a pipe trench can bear loads without settling over time. They are used before paving or laying a pipe. Plate compactors are for large areas, rammers for tight spaces. Choose the type according to the area to be compacted and the depth of the work.
What is the difference between a vibrating plate, a rammer and a vibratory roller?
The vibrating plate works on large, flat surfaces such as screeds and yards. The rammer, or vibrating tamper, is used for narrow trenches and for edges. The vibratory roller covers larger areas, even with a ride-on operator. The pneumatic tamper, used for manual compaction in confined spaces, runs on compressed air.
Which plate compactors are available and how do they differ?
The collection includes Unimec reversible plates, such as FG27400 and FG27130, the Milwaukee MX FUEL PC50 battery-powered plate and the DeWalt DCPS7154N-XJ with 15 kN and powershift. The differences lie in compaction force, weight, power source and whether the direction of travel can be reversed. Compare the data on each model's technical data sheet.
Which accessories are needed to use a plate compactor on finished paving?
For the Milwaukee MX FUEL PC50 there is a paving protection plate, fitted under the plate compactor so that it does not mark the surface. The SXR Probst mat for plate compactors is another protective accessory for the Probst model. The water tank and the wheel kit complete the Milwaukee plate. Check compatibility with the model before buying.
Is a battery-powered compactor better than one with a combustion engine?
The battery-powered model, such as the Milwaukee MX FUEL plate, produces no exhaust fumes and can be used indoors or near people, as long as ventilation is adequate. Models with a combustion engine, where present, emit exhaust gases and must be used outdoors or in well-ventilated areas. Consider the length of the job, the availability of power and the environment you are working in.
What are the risks of using compactors and how can they be reduced?
Vibration transmitted to the arms and body is the main risk. Directive 2002/44/EC, transposed into Italian Legislative Decree 81/2008 on workplace safety, requires it to be assessed and exposure to be limited through breaks, operator rotation and machine maintenance. Legislative Decree 81/2008 also requires noise to be assessed. Use anti-vibration gloves and check that the handles are intact.
Which type of compactor should I use for a narrow trench or a site with little space?
For narrow trenches and for compaction along edges you need the rammer or the PT or PT-1 pneumatic tamper from Breaker. The pneumatic tamper is manual and suited to confined spaces where a plate will not fit. Consider the width of the trench, the depth to be reached and the weight the operator can handle safely.
