Commercial and Industrial Generators
648 products · Generating Sets
Generators produce electricity independently where the mains is absent or insufficient: building sites, workshops, events, maintenance work and emergency situations. The collection brings together portable generators and higher-power generating sets.
Types of generator available
- Portable engine-driven generators, some on wheels, such as the Wortex models
- Inverter generators and silenced inverters, suitable for powering sensitive equipment
- Genmac generating sets in open or canopied versions
- Silenced generators in a canopy, such as those by Pramac
How to choose
Start from the total power of the equipment to be supplied and leave a margin, because electric motors require more power on start-up. Then check whether you need a single-phase or three-phase supply, the type of fuel and whether noise is a problem, in which case a silenced version is best. AMES Srl works on a quotation basis: write to info@amessrl.com or call 051 728529 for availability, delivery times and terms. In your request, state the intended use, the quantities and, if you know them, the make and model you are looking for: this lets us propose the right item first time, check compatibility together and consider any equivalent alternatives.

Frequently asked questions: Commercial and Industrial Generators
Which generator should I choose for a building site: single-phase or three-phase?
Single-phase supplies tools and appliances at 230 V, while three-phase is needed for motors and machines at 400 V. The catalogue has both: the Wortex HW 8000 3E is three-phase, the WX6200 is single-phase. Check the voltage required by the appliances you need to connect before choosing the model.
How do I calculate the power of a generator?
Add up the power of all the appliances you want to supply at the same time, and bear in mind that motors need more power on starting than when running. For sensitive loads, such as some electronic equipment, an inverter model is best. Ask a technician to check the peak power before choosing.
Inverter generator or conventional generator: what is the difference?
The inverter generator produces a more stable current, suited to sensitive electronic equipment, and the silenced version is quieter. For higher power and motor loads the choice often falls on conventional generators or generator sets. The catalogue includes Hyundai inverter models from 1 to 7.5 kW.
Open or canopy generator set: which should I choose?
The open set is more accessible for maintenance, but is more exposed to noise and the elements. The canopy set is silenced and protected, so suitable for sites near homes or offices. Check the ventilation of the room and the free space around the set, which is needed for routine maintenance.
Can I connect a generator to my home mains supply?
No, do not connect it directly to the household socket, because the current can flow back into the grid and endanger anyone working on the line. Use a changeover switch or a dedicated supply panel, such as the ATS fitted on some models. Have the connection made by a qualified electrician.
Where can a petrol or diesel generator be used safely?
The generator produces exhaust gas containing carbon monoxide, so it must be used outdoors or in well-ventilated rooms, never in enclosed spaces. Keep it away from doors, windows and air intakes. Refuel with the engine off and away from flames or heat sources.
What maintenance does a generator need?
Check the oil level, air filter and fuel regularly, following the manufacturer's manual. Clean the ventilation openings and check cables and connections. Italian Legislative Decree 81/2008 on workplace safety requires equipment to be kept in efficient working order, so it is best to keep a log of work done and follow the maintenance plan given by the manufacturer.
Who uses commercial and industrial generators and for what purposes?
They are used by building contractors, event organisers, workshops, farms and plant operators who need to power equipment when mains power is not available. They are used for building sites, remote locations, temporary events and emergency situations. Sizing must always be done with a technician, based on the actual equipment to be supplied.
