Mounting and Fixing Tapes

The tapes in this collection are used to fix items without screws, seal joints and make quick repairs. They include double-sided mounting tapes, aluminium and sealing tapes for airtightness, cloth and PVC tapes for repairs, and special tapes such as self-adhesive magnetic tapes. Start from the surface you want to apply the tape to in order to choose the right one.

Choose the double-sided tape according to the surface, which may be smooth, porous or rough, and the weight to be supported. For heavier loads there are extra-strong tapes, such as the BK120 Boston, and double-sided mounting tapes such as Ultra Strong and Millechiodi Tape. Foam tape adapts to uneven surfaces. Read the data sheet to find out whether it is suitable for indoor or outdoor use.

Cloth tape has a fabric backing and is used for repairs and general-purpose fixing, in colours such as light blue, sky blue or grizzly. PVC tape is intended for where insulation and protection are needed. Product titles include cloth tapes from brands such as 3M and Boston: compare the backing and the hold before choosing.

Aluminium tapes and metallised PP tapes are used for airtightness, insulation and sealing of ducts and pipework. The glass-fibre tape with aluminium is designed for thermal insulation. Before applying it, clean the surface and check on the data sheet the maximum operating temperature and the type of surface it can be used on.

For quick repairs there are specific tapes, such as pipe repair tape, crack repair tape and the Rifattutto Tape repairer. Clean and dry the surface, then apply the tape in overlapping layers, pulling it taut. This is an emergency repair: check the seal over time and plan a permanent fix if the damage is structural.

Self-adhesive Velcro is used to fasten and re-fasten, for example cables or straps, and its hold depends on the surface. Double-sided tape joins two surfaces more permanently. Product titles include Ultra Power Lock Tape self-adhesive Velcro and 3M Scotch adhesive Velcro. Consider the weight to be supported, the surface and whether you need to be able to detach and re-attach the item.

Clean and degrease the surface, because dust and grease reduce the hold. Apply the tape to a dry surface at the temperature stated on the data sheet, press firmly for a few seconds and allow time for it to bond before loading the item. On porous or rough surfaces, check that the type of double-sided tape is suitable.

Artificial grass tape is used to fix and join the sheets of the turf, while greenhouse tape is used to fix or seal sheeting and film on structures. Product titles also include clear tape and insulation tape. Choose according to exposure to sun and rain, because this changes how long it lasts.
