How to choose

It depends on the animal: for birds, mesh size matters; for large animals, wire strength and fence height matter; for poultry, a fine mesh and ease of installation. Also consider the fixing system and the length of the perimeter to be fenced.

AMES Srl works on a quotation basis: tell us the animal and the perimeter and we will prepare the supply.

Frequently asked questions: Animal Control Netting and Fencing
What are bird nets used for?

They protect vegetable gardens, orchards and crops from birds, or enclose aviaries and boats. Plastic nets are light and easy to lay, while metal nets are more robust against larger animals. Choose the mesh according to the animal to be kept out: a mesh that is too wide lets smaller animals through.

Which net is needed against wild boar, wolves or coypu?

For large wild animals, stronger metal nets are needed, such as galvanised hexagonal mesh or welded wire mesh. For coypu and small rodents the mesh must be finer. The net must be fixed at the base or buried, because animals dig or pass underneath. Check the height and strength on the data sheet before buying.

Galvanised or plastic-coated net: what is the difference?

Galvanised net has a zinc coating and is suited to long-term outdoor use. The green plastic-coated net, such as the Esaplast Verdelook, adds a coloured sheath that blends into the greenery and protects the wire from corrosion. In very humid or saline environments, ask the manufacturer for the data sheet to see which protection lasts best over time.

How is barbed wire fixed to a fence?

The wire is stretched between sturdy posts and fixed to each post with the staples or elements provided. Tension the wire well before fixing it permanently, otherwise it loosens over time. Rings and pliers fix the net to the support wires. Wear sturdy gloves while installing, because the barbs can cut.

What rules apply to barbed wire and fences?

Barbed wire can cause injury, and fences must comply with municipal regulations and the guidance of the Region. Check the local rules before installing it, especially near roads and public areas. To protect crops or farms, it is also worth checking the regional provisions on wildlife.

What nets are needed for aviaries, boats and fish farms?

Aviary nets protect animals from predators and wild birds, while anti-bird nets for boats keep birds away from decks and resting areas. Nets for fish farming must be chosen for mesh and resistance to water. For these applications, check UV resistance and the sizes available.

How is a poultry net installed?

Fix the net to support posts at regular spacing and bury it or close it at the base, so that predators cannot enter the enclosure. Provide an opening or a gate for operators. Check tension and fixings regularly, especially after strong wind or snow, when the net can deform.
