Mechanical Repair

327 products

Mechanical repair brings together the materials and tools for restoring worn or damaged mechanical components: damaged threads, lost circlips, gaskets, springs, pins and press-fitted parts to be pulled off.

Types in the collection

  • Stainless steel threaded inserts for restoring damaged threads
  • Assortments of circlips and springs
  • Pullers with two or three jaws, internal and external
  • Galvanised pins, including with a safety ring
  • Liquid gaskets and high-temperature sealants

Brands include Fervi, Vigor, NPT Sigill and A.M.E.S. srl.

How to choose

To restore a thread you need the right diameter and pitch, as well as the length of the insert. For pullers, the diameter of the part to be removed and the number of jaws matter: two jaws for parts accessible from both sides, three for a more stable extraction. For liquid gaskets check the maximum temperature and the fluids they are compatible with.

AMES Srl works by quotation: tell us the part to be repaired and we will recommend the suitable item.

Frequently asked questions: Mechanical Repair
How do I repair a damaged thread without replacing the part?

A damaged thread can be restored with a stainless steel threaded insert, which is fitted into the damaged hole and restores the original thread size. The hole must be prepared with the tool provided in the manufacturer's kit. Check the screw diameter and pitch before choosing the insert, because the wrong size will not hold.

How do I remove a press-fitted part or a seized bearing?

To pull off a press-fitted part or a bearing, use two- or three-jaw pullers, internal or external. The jaw must be hooked onto the strongest edge of the part and force applied with the centre screw, without forcing it. The collection includes the GP series 2-jaw reversible puller and the E 25 puller.

Which assortment of circlips or springs should I buy for the stockroom?

Assortments of circlips, springs and spring pins bring the most-used sizes together in one box, useful for anyone doing maintenance who does not want to buy piece by piece. The collection includes the Fervi 0179 and 0296 external circlip assortments, Fervi 0180 springs and Fervi 0231 spring pins. Choose the assortment according to the parts you replace most often.

What is the difference between silicone gasket and liquid gasket?

Silicone gasket sealant in a tube, such as red Silimotor or black Siliblack for engines, forms a flexible gasket between two engine surfaces. Silgasket liquid gasket, also in the NPT version, is used to seal flanges and threads. Choose according to operating temperature and fluid, always checking the technical sheet.

Which gasket should I choose for components that run at high temperatures?

To seal components exposed to heat, such as the engine or exhaust, use red high-temperature silicone gaskets, such as Silimotor, or RTV gaskets such as Red RTV Gasket NPT. Check the temperature limit on the technical sheet and do not exceed it. Before applying the sealant, clean the surfaces thoroughly of oil and old gasket.

How do I choose a replacement spring or spring pin?

To choose a spring you need to know whether it works in tension or compression, such as the Unifix zinc-plated springs, and measure the wire, outside diameter and length. For spring pins, the diameter and the length of the hole matter. Compare the original part with the assortment before fitting and do not use a replacement of a different size, because it can work loose or break.

Who uses mechanical repair products?

Mechanics, machine maintenance technicians, repair workshops, plant technicians and craftsmen who need to restore worn components use them. Pullers, assortments and sealants are used in the workshop, in industrial maintenance and in the repair of agricultural equipment and vehicles.
