What it is
Keyless chuck DeWalt DT7044-QZ in metal, which tightens by hand, without a key, bits with a shank from 1.5 to 13 mm. The fitting is threaded 1/2" x 20 UNF, so it screws onto the spindle of drills and drill drivers that have this thread. Compared with a keyed chuck, it lets you change bits without looking for the key.
The chuck is the part of the drill or screwdriver that grips the bit or tool; the keyless type is tightened by hand, the keyed type is tightened with a dedicated key.

How to use it
Screw it onto the machine spindle or fit it with the specified adapter, with the machine disconnected. Open it, insert the bit centred and tighten until it no longer turns. Choose a chuck with a capacity and thread suited to the machine and check often that it has no play.
