Steel wool is a mass of fine steel strands, in pads or hanks, used to clean, smooth and dull wood and metal.

What it is for

Used for sanding surfaces before painting and for sanding surfaces, as preparation or as a finish.

How to use it

Use it by hand, wearing gloves, rubbing along the grain of the wood to smooth between coats of paint, or to remove oxidation from metal. Avoid leaving fibre residue on the surface, which can rust. Keep it away from water and sparks.
