What it is

A toggle latch is a mechanical device that holds two parts closed, for example a door, a hatch or a lid: a hook engages a catch and a snap-action lever puts it under tension.

How to use it

Fix one part of the latch to the door and the catch to the frame, aligning them, and adjust the distance so that the lever snaps shut with some resistance. Close it by pushing the lever down and open it by lifting it. Lubricate periodically and, where needed, complete it with a padlock.
