Box Section Spirit Levels

95 products · Analogue Measurement and Marking-Out

Box-section spirit levels have a tubular profile body, usually in aluminium, with vials for checking the horizontality and verticality of walls, windows and doors, floors and supporting surfaces. They are the reference tool for bricklayers, floor layers, window fitters and carpenters.

Types in the collection

  • Professional aluminium levels in different lengths, from 60 to 180 cm;
  • magnetic levels, useful on iron profiles and surfaces;
  • models with handles and viewing windows for a more comfortable grip;
  • classic levels with two or more vials.

The brands included are Stanley, DeWalt, Pavan and Fervi, as well as A.M.E.S. products.

How to choose

The length depends on the job: short levels are handy for windows and doors and for services, long ones for walls, screeds and alignments over greater distances. Check for a magnet, the legibility of the vials and the rubber protectors at the ends, which absorb impacts.

For everyday use it is a good idea to check the calibration from time to time by placing the level on a flat surface and then turning it through 180 degrees: the bubble must stay in the same position.

Frequently asked questions: Box Section Spirit Levels
What is a box-section spirit level used for?

It is the tool that checks whether a surface is level or plumb, using one or more vials with an air bubble. It is used by bricklayers, installers, window and door fitters and carpenters to check walls, floors, window and door frames, shelves and work surfaces. Its tubular profile body makes it rigid and easy to rest on long surfaces.

What length of spirit level should I choose?

Choose the length according to the distance to be checked: for small jobs and quick checks short levels are enough, while for floors, long walls and window and door frames a longer level is better. In the catalogue the lengths start at 60 cm and go up to 180 cm. A longer base covers more surface and makes the reading more reliable.

What is the difference between a magnetic spirit level and a standard one?

A magnetic level has magnets on the profile and sticks to iron surfaces such as steel sections, boxes and pipes, so you do not have to hold it in place by hand. A standard level has to be rested against the surface, so it is more practical on brick or wooden walls. Both can have two or more vials to read horizontal and vertical.

What are levels with two or more vials used for?

Horizontal vials measure the level plane and vertical ones check the plumb of walls, studs and window and door frames. A level with several vials allows both checks without turning it round. Check that the vials are clearly visible and that the bubble sits between the two reference lines.

Are levels with a handle or a window more comfortable to use?

The handle and the grip window make the level easier to hold in position, especially with one hand or on a long profile. The window also lets you see the bubble from several points. They are useful for work on window and door frames and suspended ceilings, where you are often working at height.

How do I check that a spirit level is still accurate?

Check a level by placing it on a flat surface and reading the bubble, then turning it through 180 degrees along the same line: if the bubble stays in the same position, the instrument is accurate. Avoid knocks and drops, which can throw the vials out of alignment. If the bubble does not return to the centre in both positions, the level needs to be checked or replaced.

What surfaces can a magnetic spirit level be used on?

A magnetic level can be used on steel sections, metal studs, boxes, pipes and sheet metal, that is, on anything the magnet can hold. It does not work on wood or concrete, where it has to be rested against the surface. The catalogue includes magnetic models from brands such as Stanley, Pavan and Fervi.
