Frequently asked questions: Petzl
Which Petzl anchor should I use to fix a point to concrete?

To fix an anchor to concrete, use anchor bolts, such as the Bolt in steel or in 316L stainless steel, installed in the substrate following the manufacturer's instructions. Anchors for work at height must comply with the EN 795 standard. The substrate must be solid and of adequate strength, and the point must be checked by a competent person before use.

Steel or 316L stainless steel: which Petzl anchor should I choose in a damp environment?

316L stainless steel resists corrosion better, so it is recommended in damp, coastal or chemically aggressive environments. Carbon steel needs to be checked more often because it corrodes more easily. The type of substrate the point is fixed to also matters. Coeur hangers and Bolt anchors come in both versions, so choose the material according to the working environment.

How do I choose a Petzl fall-arrest harness for working at height?

Fall-arrest harnesses must comply with the EN 361 standard and be used with connectors complying with EN 362. Choose the model according to the type of work: rope descent, work in suspension or work positioning. Check the size, the fit and whether the buckles are easy to adjust. Anyone using the harness must be trained in its use and in rescue.

What is the Petzl Zigzag descender used for?

The Zigzag descender is used to descend a rope in a controlled way, with braking managed by the device. Descenders of this type comply with the EN 341 standard. It is a tool for rope work or rescue, so it must be used only by trained people, with the rope correctly anchored and a safety system connected. Always read the instructions before use.

Which Petzl rope should I choose for rope work?

The Parallel 10.5 mm and Axis 11 mm semi-static ropes differ in diameter and weight, and the diameter changes the grip in the hands and how the rope works with descenders. The Segment 8 mm Custom rope has a smaller diameter. Choose the diameter according to the device you will use and how often you will use it, and check on the data sheet that it is compatible with your equipment.

How do I choose a Petzl work helmet with a visor?

The Vertex helmet can be completed with the Vizir visor and with spare parts such as the padding. For helmets made before 2019 there are dedicated replacement visors, so check the model before buying. A work helmet must comply with the EN 397 standard. Replace it after a significant impact or as indicated by the manufacturer.

Which Petzl pulley do I need to lift a load on a rope?

Petzl pulleys, such as the JAG TRAXION, the Tandem Speed and the MINDER L1 and L2, are used to redirect and run the rope, reducing effort in hoisting and hauling systems. The model is chosen according to the rope diameter and the load to be moved. Always check the stated working load and the compatibility with the system you are assembling.

Which Petzl backpack should I use to carry tools at height: Expert 40 or Expert 55?

The Expert 40 and Expert 55 backpacks differ in size, as the number in the name indicates. Choose according to how many tools you need to carry and how much space the rope requires. A larger backpack is useful for long jobs, while for quick interventions the smaller model is more convenient. Check that the buckles and straps are in good condition before use.
