How to choose

It depends on the condition of the metal: on new surfaces an anti-rust primer followed by the topcoat is enough, while on iron that is already rusty you need products designed for rust. Exposure then matters, indoor or outdoor, and whether you need a quick touch-up, for which a spray is more practical, or the painting of large surfaces. Primer and topcoat must be chosen so that they are compatible with each other.
