What it is

The DeWalt DW739-QS band saw is a professional corded machine for cutting wood, characterised by variable speed, which allows the blade speed to be adjusted continuously to suit the material and the job. With a height of 970 mm, a width of 510 mm and a weight of 23 Kg, it is a compact stationary machine, suited to the craft workshop. Continuous speed adjustment offers great versatility across the different stages of cutting.

A band saw is a machine with a continuous loop blade for cutting metal, sections or wood; it comes as a fixed, bench or workshop machine, and as a portable cordless version. It also includes inspection tools such as the blade tension gauge.

What it is for

Used for woodworking in the joinery shop, for cutting solid wood, panels and battens, on the bench or on site and for cutting metal sections, sheet and tube.

How to use it

Fit the blade with the teeth pointing in the cutting direction, tension it to the stated value and bring the guides close to the workpiece. On fixed machines, clamp the workpiece in a vice (metal) or push it against the fence (wood), select the speed and use cutting fluid on metal. On portable saws, clamp the workpiece firmly and hold the machine with both hands, letting the blade do the work without pushing. Keep your hands away from the blade, using a push stick where needed, and release the blade tension if the machine is to stand idle for a long time.
