What it is

A roof access window is an opening installed in the roof pitch that lights the loft space and provides access to the roof for inspection and maintenance.

Used for roof maintenance and for assembly work.

How to use it

Install it in the opening between the rafters with the brackets and the flashing kit suited to the roof covering, ideally near the ridge and near an access ladder. Open it fully before stepping out and climb using a stable ladder. The roof window is not an anchor point: on the roof, work only when connected to a lifeline or certified anchors.

Standards and compliance

Roof windows comply with standard EN 14351-1 (product standard for windows and doors) for CE marking, with requirements for air and water tightness, thermal insulation (Uw, thermal transmittance coefficient), sound insulation (Rw) and wind load resistance. The glazing complies with EN 1279 (insulating glass units), with laminated safety glass on the inside and toughened glass on the outside for hail resistance. Installation requires certified waterproofing flashings to keep the roof covering watertight.
