A timber roof window is a window for installation in a pitched roof, with a timber frame and centre-pivot or dual opening, also available motorised or as a smoke vent.

How to use it

Cut the opening between the rafters to the window size, fix the frame with the brackets and fit the flashing kit suited to the roof covering, finishing inside with insulation and lining. Electric and smoke-vent models must be connected by an electrician to the specified control unit. Clean the seals and channels, and touch up the timber finish when it deteriorates.

Standards and compliance

Roof windows comply with standard EN 14351-1 (product standard for windows and doors) for CE marking, with requirements for air and water tightness, thermal insulation (Uw, thermal transmittance coefficient), sound insulation (Rw) and wind load resistance. The glazing complies with EN 1279 (insulating glass units), with laminated safety glass on the inside and toughened glass on the outside for hail resistance. Installation requires certified waterproofing flashings to keep the roof covering watertight.
