A tape measure is a retractable steel measuring tape with an end hook and lock, for measuring lengths on site and in the workshop.

Used for measuring on site and in the workshop.
How to use it
Hook the end of the tape over the edge of the workpiece or butt it against a surface: the sliding hook compensates for its own thickness in both cases. Extend the tape taut and straight, lock it and read the scale looking at it square-on. Guide the tape back as it retracts without letting it snap back, and keep it clean of mortar and moisture.
