An auger bit is a spiral, flat (spade) or expansive wood bit for drilling medium and large-diameter holes in beams, boards and panels.

Used for woodworking in the joinery shop, for drilling wood and panels and in woodworking, from cutting to finishing.

How to use it

Fit the bit in the drill chuck and tighten it fully; on expansive bits, set and lock the diameter first. Centre the lead point on the mark and drill at moderate speed, without hammer action, withdrawing the bit frequently to clear the chips. To avoid breakout, drill until the lead point just emerges, then finish the hole from the opposite side.
