Period-style hinge

What it is

The period-style hinge is a die-cast hinge for inset doors, i.e. doors mounted inside the furniture carcass and flush with it. It has a 6 mm diameter pivot, a bronzed finish and requires a 35 mm diameter hole; it is sold in blister packs of 2 pieces. For overlay doors there is the version with a 9 mm pivot, 80 or 105 mm high.

A furniture hinge connects a door or lid to the carcass and allows it to open. There are cup hinges for furniture doors and hinges for the lids of chests and boxes.

What it is for

Used for furniture assembly and for woodworking in the joinery shop.

How to use it

For doors, the cup is inserted into a hole in the door and the arm is fixed to the side panel; the shape of the arm determines how the door overlaps the side. The door is then adjusted for height and depth until it closes flush. Hinges for lids and boxes are surface-fixed with screws on the edge.
