What it is
Small iron hinges with a brass-effect finish, i.e. iron with a brass-coloured coating and not solid brass, made for the lids of caskets and boxes. They are sold in blister packs in four sizes: 13x20, 15x25 and 20x20 mm in packs of 8 pieces, 30x25 mm in packs of 2. They are hinges to be surface-mounted on the edge, much smaller than those for furniture doors.
A furniture hinge connects a door or lid to the carcass and allows it to open. There are cup hinges for furniture doors and hinges for the lids of chests and boxes.
What it is for
Used for furniture assembly.
How to use it
For doors, the cup is inserted into a hole in the door and the arm is fixed to the side panel; the shape of the arm determines how the door overlaps the side. The door is then adjusted for height and depth until it closes flush. Hinges for lids and boxes are surface-fixed with screws on the edge.
