What it is

The DeWalt HSS-G series drill bit to DIN 338 is made for drilling metal to a reference dimensional standard. This model (DT5201-QZ) has a working length of 12 mm and an overall length of 34 mm, compact dimensions suited to precision drilling in thin sheet metal and small steel components. It is supplied in a single blister pack.

A metal drill bit is an HSS, cobalt or coated twist drill for drilling steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals and plastic with a drill or drill driver.

What it is for

Used for drilling steel, stainless steel and aluminium, on a pillar drill or with a hand-held drill and in workshop machining of steel, aluminium and alloy parts.

How to use it

Mark the centre with a centre punch, clamp the workpiece and drill at a speed that is lower the larger the diameter and the harder the material. Maintain steady pressure, lubricate with cutting oil on steel and stainless steel and, for large diameters, drill a pilot hole first. Withdraw the bit frequently to clear the swarf, and never touch the swarf with bare hands.
