The fixed point is a clamp or saddle that locks a pipe at a precise point, so that thermal expansion is directed in the intended directions. The sliding support, by contrast, holds the pipe while leaving it free to move lengthwise.
What it is for
Used for installing building services and plant and for supporting pipework and ductwork.
How to use it
Fixed points are installed where the designer or manufacturer specifies, fixed to a support able to withstand the thrust. Sliding supports are fitted at intermediate points without clamping the pipe tight, so that it can slide. Check that the pipe cannot come out of its seat and that the joints are not stressed.
