How to use it

Set the instrument on its tripod on stable ground, rough-level it with the bubble and let the compensator complete the levelling. Read the height on the staff through the telescope or, for lasers, with the receiver, and transfer it to the points to be marked out. Check the calibration periodically and never look directly into the beam.
